I had the pleasure of attending the October lunch & learn this week alongside Bridget, and I found it to be a nice event that brings together existing and new members, as well as providing a motivational presentation, courtesy of Dr. Joe Serio. This was my second event (my first being the mayor’s luncheon on my first day), so I had an idea of how it would go, but not much more than that.
We made sure everyone checked in, received their nametag, and wrote their name on a slip of colored paper for the game that was soon to come.
Throughout the lunch, which was catered by Chick-fil-A, I enjoyed watching new members have their first opportunity to get their word out to the community about their business. It felt like a mini induction into the club. There were also several awards and recognitions to be had around the room.
Later, Dr. Serio spoke about overcoming fear and having what it takes to become a leader. His presentation was inspiring, funny, and relatable as he engaged us with one-on-one questions and his personal defeats and triumphs. I couldn’t help but notice the Chick-fil-A cow silently standing and listening at the back of the room. I thought to myself, “Man, this cow is going to chase his dreams after hearing this.”
The lunch concluded with a game of barn animal sounds that corresponded to the colored slip of paper earlier mentioned – “team cow” taking first place. (See, he’s already going places!) Afterwards, everyone was nice and helpful to get everything picked up, and Bridget videotaped short clips of a few members speaking on behalf of the Chamber.
If you ask me, it was not a bad way to spend a Tuesday afternoon and I’m already excited for next month’s lunch.
