13+ Great Shop Local Leander Gift Ideas

Nov 30, 2015

We spent this past weekend shopping and we ended up discussing shopping local.  To my surprise, it was a struggle for people to come up with local gift ideas and even more shocking...many of the national "great buys" were priced close to what you can pay at some of our local shops all year long. I hope you enjoy the Leander Gift Guide, please let us know if you have ideas to add to the list and check out our coupon pages for discounts at these great local businesses.

1) Restaurant Gift Cards- No one wants to cook after the holidays; this is a great gift for anyone.

2) Flowers - Instead of buying a traditional gift, surprise someone with a beautiful arrangement.  Send it right before the holidays, so it can be admired by everyone that visits.

3) Hunting/Shooting- This is a popular sport in our area, and we have a few great local gun shops that have a huge selection of new and pre-owned equipment.

4) Jewels- This isn't an original idea but I know there are a lot of people that would like a new piece of jewelry for the holidays.  Surprise her with a new pair of earrings, a watch, or a beautiful diamond necklace.

5) Lessons - My sister and I used to (we still do) love to dance and always loved getting to go to workshops as a part of our Christmas gifts. Dance, music, basketball, martial arts, etc...lessons are a great gift idea for kids.  It gets them away from screens, and they will love it.  My son is getting basketball lessons this year for sure!

6) Art - Art makes a perfect gift as many people love art and rarely treat themselves.  We are lucky to have many local artists.  Try giving something they will remember forever or having an heirloom finally framed.

7) Family Fun - I am big on making memories during the holidays instead of buying more things.  We already have Stars tickets and Bingo passes wrapped up to open early.  Check out all of the fun things you can do in the area and try an experience instead of a traditional gift or plan a trip somewhere fun for the season.

8) Charity/Food Bank Gift - Instead of gifts for each other at company parties, bring food items, school supplies, baby items, etc. and donate to your local Food Bank or Women's Shelter or Salvation Army, etc. Another idea could be a Christmas card with a note saying, "I made a donation to {Charitable Organization Name} in your name."

9) Wellness - I love getting gifts like this.  Don't think I won't highlight this and send it over to my hubby.  Massages, chiropractic and acupuncture care, and yoga/fitness training sessions all make for great holiday gifts.

10) Decorating - How about a room makeover?  Are you the person that always wishes Fixer Upper would take over your home?  Well, we have our own fixer uppers right here in Leander.

11) Baked Goods - Baked goods are great gifts for teachers, co-workers, or your favorite chamber president.

12) Fashion for you or your home - Everyone enjoys looking great.  We have a lot of local people that specialize in making you or your home look amazing.  From clothing to cosmetics and dermatology to home fashions we have you covered if you want to make yourself or your home look great this season.

13) Spirits - No holiday wish list is complete without wine.  Wine and spirits make a great hostess or trade gift.  Or throw your own wine tasting party when you get together.

Just a reminder, dollars spent locally create a multiplier in the local economy, meaning that from each dollar spent at a local merchant, 2 to 3.5 recirculates in the local economy compared to a dollar spent at chain-owned businesses. This means shifting more local purchasing to independent businesses is a key tool for creating more local jobs, reducing taxes, and helping us maintain the character of Leander that we all love so much!
